My husband's bright idea
My husband had a great idea a couple months ago. Our son (barely 5 years old) and our daughter (2 years and change) share a room. She is still in a crib and doesn't climb out, praise Heaven. Our son tended to get out of his bed earlier than we liked so Dave made a traffic light with a timer on it. Red means they can't come out of their room, green means they may come out. The yellow light doesn't go on. Our son knows he can come out for two reasons: in case of an emergency, and if he has to go to the bthroom. He put in a timer and it turns red at 8:00 p.m. and we set it to turn green at 7:15 a.m. Last Friday night we wisened up (is wisened a word?) and he set the light to turn green at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So we had a little bit longer on those days. It's awesome. There is one down side. When the light changed, there is a little "click" and sometimes I wonder if that wakes them up. But Dave leaves for work around 7:30 and I like when the kids can see their dad before he leaves.
