I'm going to do a "diet". I like to think of it as a game. It is a competition to lose weight/get healthier. It's from a book called "The Game On! Diet: Kick your friends' butt while shrinking your own." I'm excited and fearful at the same time. I like food, and what's worse, I like to eat it. And I'm very good at it. It's one of my few talents. Anyway, I need to lose my belly, which I'd like to blame on having a baby, but in all honesty I can't.

This is basically how it goes:

There are two teams that compete for 4 weeks and the team with the most points wins a prize that is determined before play begins. You earn 100 points per day and there are some ways to earn extra points, for an available total of 850 points per week. Daily points are made up of: 5 meals eaten throughout the day (6 points per meal), 20 minutes of exercise per day, 3 liters (LITERS) of water per day, adding a good habit, stopping a bad habit, 7 hours of sleep per night, communicating with a member of your team snd the opposing team. There are some exceptions, bonus points and a free day, and a free meal. You get points off for snacking in between meals. And you report your points to a scorekeeper each week. Also, there are food guidelines as far as what you can eat.

Part of my problem is that I lack willpower to not stuff my mouth with whatever I want to. I started a new medication and at the beginning I actually had no appetite. None. I'd even be hungry, and have no appetite (if that is even possible). So people that don't love, love, love food like I do (ones that only eat so they don't DIE) I am very jealous of.

Anyway, here is the website.

I'm starting March 1st and anyone who reads this and is interested is welcome to join us. Just let me know. I just bought the book from amazon for $10 (that includes shipping). I borrowed a book from my sister. She was nice enough to black out some words (there is a bit of language in very bad taste).

Game on! Wish me luck.

food storage

I just recently posted about this emergency prep web site, but I had to post again. I love, love, love food storage, in fact for Christmas one year when parents asked what we wanted we just said "cash" and we used it all for food storage. I'd just buy it throughout the year when there were good sales on things I wanted. I want to get mine more organized and "user friendly". This site had a new awesome product and I thought I should share it with the few people that read this.

This is awesome. I'm ordering some soon (if not today!) I suppose I'll check with my husband first.

My son talks. A lot. I don't have ears strong enough to pay close attention to all he says. A couple weeks ago we were in the car and we saw an airplane. I decided we should tell a story about where it was going. So I started and said a couple sentences about where it was going, then it was they boy's turn. Then mine, then his. We took turns for about 5 minutes telling a fun story that began with the plane. After a while I had my son start a new story, one all his own. He talked and talked for at least 5 minutes. It was very cute. And I must admit that I did not pay close attention. Bad mom, I know.

I used to think that all children his age (and at different stages in his life) talk as much as he does. But I have come to learn that they don't. My daughter is two and she does not talk nearly as much as he did, thankfully. It's interesting to see the different personalities of my children.

Not that you care, but...

The funniest thing I heard today was, "The minute I got married I taught myself to fart out loud."

Food Storage

Before we moved, one of the two things I dreaded moving was our food storage and my husband's garage. Luckily for me my husband did both. It helped that I had a newborn baby to attend to when we packed. I have loved going to the church cannery and getting some stuff there. I've also loved volunteering there. I haven't been there since my second child was born, but I'd like to go more. On facebook this morning someone had posted this link: http://foodstoragemadeeasy.net/ I don't know how to make that an active link, so if you'll have to copy and paste if you want to visit that site.

I love all the pictures of this woman's grandmother's storage room. It's great. This is something I want to work on.

My husband's bright idea

My husband had a great idea a couple months ago. Our son (barely 5 years old) and our daughter (2 years and change) share a room. She is still in a crib and doesn't climb out, praise Heaven. Our son tended to get out of his bed earlier than we liked so Dave made a traffic light with a timer on it. Red means they can't come out of their room, green means they may come out. The yellow light doesn't go on. Our son knows he can come out for two reasons: in case of an emergency, and if he has to go to the bthroom. He put in a timer and it turns red at 8:00 p.m. and we set it to turn green at 7:15 a.m. Last Friday night we wisened up (is wisened a word?) and he set the light to turn green at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So we had a little bit longer on those days. It's awesome. There is one down side. When the light changed, there is a little "click" and sometimes I wonder if that wakes them up. But Dave leaves for work around 7:30 and I like when the kids can see their dad before he leaves.
