So Dave called me from work to tell me that he won something at work. I guess we get to go to Cabo, Mexico for a week. All expenses paid. How 'bout that?

I received a nice compliment yesterday although I don't think it was meant to be one. I have a friend who has a son my son's age. My friend and her husband are both converts to the Church and the only other members of their family who are active (or even members I think) are her dad whose health is not well. The husband is from another country and they have few relatives. Anyway, not that anything would happen, but they have been thinking about what to do with their son if they both should die. She asked if I'd be willing to take him in and raise him. They haven't decided if they would rather have him go to family members who aren't LDS or to us who she trusts and knows would raise him in the Church. Of couse I answered yes.

You know it is amazing how Heavenly Father protects us. I always pray that we'll be safe, but seldom think about how many times I've been kept safe because of my prayers. About a year ago Dave and I were on the freeway in the express lane. Traffic was backed up in the other lanes and our lane was fairly clear. We weren't going super fast but I told Dave, "slow down". It wasn't because I had a prompting, but I just wanted him to slow down. Right then a car from the lane to our right pulled out in front of us. We would have hit it had Dave not slowed down. I know we were being protected.

Then people might ask the classic question, "why do bad things happen to good people?" Why do good things happen to bad people? Why does anything happen to anyone? Because people are human and life is life. Sometimes we are divinely protected and sometimes I guess we are divinely required to experience hardships. We just are.

On Saturday, April 30th in Payson there will be a benefit 5K for my cousin Sarah to raise money for her medical bills. You may remember I had a yard sale at my house a year ago to help raise money. Anyway, if anyone who reads this wants to run a 5K for a good cause, or if anyone wants to come have breakfast (I think it's $10 per family) to help raise money, come!! I'll be there helping with breakfast, because I don't run. Unless it is toward donughts or candy or to the couch after the kids are in bed. She has cancer and her friends are putting this together to help with her growing medical bills. Bring your family, bring your friends, etc.

Okay, I don't like to put up posts so often, but I have to share this site with whomever will look at it. It is hilarious and fairly disturbing. There are a few non-classy words in there (and pictures too), but I haven't seen anything like it.

Enjoy.
My first friend I am spotlighting has the initials of AJJA. I decided not to post full names because you will all go out and be friends with my friends and I can't have that. It wouldn't end nicely. Anyway, some reasons why I like this girl:

She is funny. We laugh a lot when we are together. And she laughs at my lame jokes (usually).

She is down to earth.

She is a hard worker. A good mom and a good wife. I need mothering and wifing lessons from her. You didn't know wifing was a word did you.

She is optimistic and doesn't let little things bother her.

She is not judgemental. At all. She doesn't belittle me or others about our opinions if they are different than hers.

I feel good around her. You know when you have friends that make you feel good about yourself, others, or just about life in general? She is one of those friends.
She doesn't gossip or compare.

This one is probably my favorite. She is very spiritual. And I really like her spirituality. It is, to me, very matter of fact. It is not condescending, preachy, or in your face. She doesn't flaunt it.

She is smart and loves learning.

Actually a few months ago I sent her an email listing reasons why I liked her so much, but this list is a bit longer. She said, "Andrea, I'm married now. You need to leave me alone. This stalking has to stop." The funny thing is that when we were in our youth and I saw her on random occasions I didn't much care for her. She knows this. We laugh about it.

My son was so sweet yesterday. Driving home after being at my mom's all day with cousins he said sweetly, "I love my cousins. I love everyone, even if they are mean to me. And I love Jesus." I honestly started to cry, he is such a sweet boy.
I remarked to my sister how 5 is such a fun age. They can do many things for themselves and to me, they seem to think much more logically. There is an excitement for learning and a love for adventure and pretending. My son can be very sensitive to the feelings of others (especially his sisters and mom). I love my boy.

Mood

I have come to the realization that the way my day goes depends on my mood. It has nothing to do with outside factors. Like the saying goes, "if it's to be, it's up to me." Isn't there a book called "Success through a positive mental attitude?" Who said, "people are usually as happy as they make up their mind to be."

Also, I have decided to do spotlights on friends of mine here on the blog. I have amazing friends and their amazingness needs to be shouted from the rooftops (or at least on my blog). Watch out! You might be next.
